Biography
I’ve been drawn to flight and light since childhood. Every summer, my parents took my brother and me to local airshows, where I became captivated by the raw power and grace of aircraft like the F-4 Phantom and the Vulcan bomber with its sweeping delta wings. Those early impressions led me in the 1960s to pick up a hand-me-down Konica 35mm SLR — not just to remember what I saw, but to hold tangible artifacts of those memories.
In high school, I began developing prints in the darkroom, learning the fundamentals of light, exposure, and tonal control in both color and black & white. Strangely enough, I still apply those same principles in my digital work today.
Photography has been my lifelong companion — from army field exercises (where I was rarely without both a rifle and a camera) to my career as a photogrammetrist, mapping the world from images. That work took me across the globe, always with a camera in hand, always chasing light.

From Inorganic Flight to Organic Marvels – 2024 Art Exhibit
The theme of flight continues to inspire me. At last year’s Abbotsford evening airshow, I captured a T-33 jet glinting in the sunset with the moon rising behind it — a fleeting blend of light, metal, and sky. In contrast, a parachutist’s descent reminds us of the human connection to gravity: short, dramatic, and full of intent.
But for me, the hummingbird reigns as the true master of flight — organic, expressive, efficient, and far more agile than any machine. My favorite photo in this portfolio freezes a hummingbird mid-hover in sharp, natural detail. At first glance, it may look like a watercolor — but it’s a straight photograph, with minimal corrections. Capturing that moment took five flashes, a 1/20,000 second exposure, and a lot of patience.

Artist Statement
Photography is my creative language. It connects the mechanical to the organic, memory to moment, and science to emotion. Whether tracking a roaring fighter jet or a hummingbird in still air, I chase the poetry of motion — and the stillness inside it
